Sir Winston Churchill was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom during WWII, and he is best known for leading his country to victory after coming so close to defeat at the hands of the Nazis. Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill was born two months prematurely on November 8, 1874, in Woodstock, Oxfordshire. Winston grew up in Dublin until 1888, when he transferred to a boarding school near London before enrolling in the British Royal Military College. He served in the military for a time before becoming a journalist and author. His political career began in 1900, when he was elected to the House of Commons. His political career advanced, and he became Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in 1940.
Winston Churchill was born to Lord Randolph Churchill, a British statesman, and Lady Jeanette Jerome, the daughter of an American millionaire.

Winston Churchill was re-elected Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in 1951. He remained in office until 1955.
In 1953, Winston Churchill was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. He wrote a number of historical books.

In 1941, Winston Churchill suffered a heart attack.
