Walmart is an American retail department and grocery store chain that is the world’s largest company by revenue. With approximately 2.2 million employees, it is also the world’s largest private employer. Walmart is a family-owned corporation founded in 1962 in Rogers, Arkansas by Sam Walton. Sam Walton was a businessman and a former J.C. In 1945, Penney purchased a Ben Franklin Store from the Butler Brothers. In the first year, he increased sales by 45 percent by offering lower prices on products purchased from lower-cost suppliers. Sam Walton opened the first Walmart Discount City store on July 2, 1962.

Within five years of the first Walmart opening in Arkansas, the company had expanded to 24 stores across the state, with sales totaling $12.6 million.

Walmart was founded in 1969 as Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.

In 1970, Walmart was listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

Walmart’s net profit in 2014 was $16 billion, which was equal to the global gross revenue of Gap, Banana Republic, and Old Navy combined.

Christy Walton, the widow of Sam Walton’s son, is the world’s richest woman. Jim, Alice, and Rob Walton are Sam Walton’s other three children.

Walmart is estimated to account for approximately 18% of all food stamps used in the United States. This equates to about $13 billion. To make ends meet on their allegedly low wages, Walmart employees frequently have to rely on food stamps.

The Walton family donates about 2% of its wealth to charity and other causes, whereas Warren Buffet donates 78% of his net worth and Bill Gates donates 48% of his net worth.
